This year's "Starbucks Summer Camp for University Students and Environmental Protection" successfully closed at Ocean University of China on August 24. Secretary-general of CSCLF, Li Ning, vice president of Starbucks China, Shi Dongwei, leaders from the Ocean University and many guests attended the closing ceremony.

 

The activity was jointly organized by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Starbucks China. 150 environmental protection volunteers, college students took part in the camp. During the five-day's event, they discussed concerned issues in environmental protection area.

 

Li Ning gave approval to the camp, saying that during this event, students were able to demonstrate the fruit of their environment protection practices. Li said that the project set up a platform for these young students to help them raise the environment protection awareness.

 

Vice President of Starbucks China, Shi Dongwei said that "I'm very glad to find so many university students to join the team of protecting our environment. They feed back the society through their deeds. We encourage more students to take part in the activity to do their bits for the society."

 

As a total of 40 students and teachers from Peking University, Shandong University, Yunnan University, Ocean University of China joined in the 5-day summer camp. They shared their projects on environment protection and invited experts to give assessments and advice. The experts offered lectures for the students to improve their projects. In addition to this, the students and staff of Starbucks participated in garbage sorting and community cleaning activities throughout a number of communities.

 

College students and staff of Starbucks joint community service in Qingdao, where they shared the "Green Community" experience of Starbucks. They spread environmental protection ideas and call on people to protect the ocean.

"Starbucks Summer Camp for University Students and Environmental Protection" project was financed by Starbuck and initiated in 2010. Starbucks donated 6 million RMB a year to finance 300 environmental protection projects in 20 Chinese universities. So far, it has financed 600 projects and over 3000 students have taken part in the project.
