On the morning of August 11, the 2017 “Soong Ching Ling Cup” China-ASEAN Youth Football Friendly Matches came to a successful conclusion at China Football School, the training base of China’s General Administration of Sport in Qinhuangdao.
The 2017 “Soong Ching Ling Cup” China-ASEAN Youth Football Friendly Matches bring people from China and the ASEAN countries closer.
The tournament, jointly sponsored by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, China-ASEAN Center and Chinese Football Association, lasted five days. Ten youth teams from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and host China attended the matches. China’s A team, Thai team and Laos team won first, second and third prizes, respectively. Fan Xulin, Zhang Zhixiong and Luan Yi from China’s A team were granted three awards – “Most Valuable Player”, “Top Score” and “Best Keeper”, and Cambodia team received the “Fair Play Award”.

Tang Jiuhong, director of CSCLF’s Fund Department, and Sun Jianhua, vice director of Education, Culture and Tourism Division of China-ASEAN Center, presented the second prize to Thai team.
Ding Qipeng, head of the training base of China’s General Administration of Sport in Qinhuangdao, and Song Jian, vice director of CSCLF’s Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, gave the third prize to Laos team.
Young players at the matches carry new hopes for football development of their own nations and demonstrate enterprising sportsmanship. They strive to succeed but respect their rivals and the rules.
Thai team is being mobilized before the match.
After the matches, they are friendly ambassadors between China and ASEAN countries. Many players and coaches said they heard that Chinese people are kind and friendly before they left their countries and when they landed on China, they really experienced the hospitality of the people. They also expressed hopes that China and ASEAN nations can be good neighbors and friends forever and join hands to contribute to the improvement of football in Asia and to the happiness of all peoples.
During the 2017 “Soong Ching Ling Cup”, the considerate arrangements of the organization committee and the whole staff made players and coaches feel at home. Volunteers from the CSCLF and the training base of China’s General Administration of Sport in Qinhuangdao strove to offer all-round assistance to all teams. Their hard work ensured the successful conclusion of the matches.

The 2017 “Soong Ching Ling Cup” China-ASEAN Youth Football Friendly Matches have already come to an end. Young players will return to Beijing. They will visit places of interest like the Imperial Palace and the Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling. A player from ASEAN country said, “The experience of competing in a contest held in a foreign country for the first time is unforgettable. The Soong Ching Ling Cup enables me not only to enjoy playing football but also to learn much from the abundant cultural exchange activities. I will definitely share my wonderful experience here with my families and friends”.
The friendship and ties generated from football and cultural exchange is bound to bring people from China and the ASEAN countries closer, thereby laying solid foundation for the establishment of a community of common destiny between China and the ASEAN nations.
