Just as the 19th CPC National Congress successfully concluded on October 24, the CSCLF and the United Nations Country Team in China jointly hosted a celebration event for the 2017 United Nations Day at the Former Residence of Soong Ching Ling, Beijing. Wang Jiarui, vice chairman of CPPCC and chairman of CSCLF, attended the celebration and made remarks.
Wang said this day is of great significance not only to the United Nations, but also to the CPC and Chinese people. He said, “The just concluded National Party Congress is a remarkable event with historical missions. The Communist Party of China summarized its brilliant achievements in leading Chinese people in past five years and put forward its sustainable goals of socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, thereby embarking on a journey to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects and build a modern socialist China. Adhering to the five principles of innovation, coordination, green development, sharing and opening-up, China proactively adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieved primary success in many fields, which greatly contributes to peace, development and stability all over the world. The CSCLF is ready to strengthen exchange and cooperation with the United Nations Country Team in China to make more progress in advancing the 2030 Agenda.”
Mr. Nicholas Rosellini, UN Resident Coordinator, made welcoming remarks. He said, “Noble aspiration is not enough to realize the 2030 Agenda. To turn ideas into reality, more extensive and profound partnership is needed. The efforts and commitment of the Government of China is a good example of actions on Sustainable Development Goals. China’s 13th Five-Year Plan shares essential purposes with SDGs. If China ends poverty by 2020, the country will be ten years ahead of the 2030 Agenda.” Mr. Rosellini extended gratitude to the CSCLF and other institutions for their support and expressed his hope to further and deepen cooperation with them in various areas.
Vice minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen and vice governor of Qinghai Province Tian Jinchen shared views on realizing SGDs from their perspectives. Wang stressed the importance of targeted poverty reduction policies. He said that the Ministry of Commerce will join the United Nations Country Team in China to carry out the 2030 Agenda in China. Tian Jinchen noted that Qinghai is striving to build it into a prosperous, culturally advanced, harmonious and beautiful province and called for the support and aid of state ministries and commissions, the United Nations Country Team in China and the CSCLF.
Interactive exhibitions were staged to present efforts to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals made by the United Nations Country Team in China and all quarters of the Chinese society. Meantime, the People’s government of Qinghai Province and the United Nations Country Team in China entered into partnership in implementing the 2030 Agenda in Qinghai. The two sides agreed to cooperate in areas like targeted poverty alleviation, environmental protection, climate change, social security and service, as well as the Belt and Road initiative.
